September 13, 2024

Objectives :

The ultimate goal of this activity is to connect and educate students about Inuit culture. To achieve this, students experience different moments in the land, and they discover the way the Inuit ancestors did. At this location, students do not have access to paper, showers, internet, etc. Students thus are in contact with facets of their own culture that they know little or nothing about.

Age group : Grade 5 and 6 – French

Organization :

It takes four hours to get there, and the plane and the skidoo are necessary. The hosts of the place plan everything: meals, activities, means of transport for the students and the accompanying persons. At night, students sleep in campers.

Activities:

The activities are multiple and varied from one day to another: Igloo making, ice fishing, tent pitching, skiing, caribou hunting, survival in the land, stories telling by elders in the evening, among others.

Benefits:

1) Activities that allows, for some students, to be introduce to Inuit culture. Some of them are in touch with this kind of cultural activities for the first time.

2) Activities that promote student motivation. They are interested to learn in the land.
